The Traditional Art of He Xiang 合香
Our scented bead bracelets draw on the traditional Chinese art of He Xiang: blending aromatic ingredients into a composition, then shaping that blend into beads. The craft brings together aromatic woods, herbs and resins through a sequence of careful preparation, blending, shaping and drying.
This traditional method is part of the story behind each piece—a connection between the ritual of scent and modern everyday wear.

An illustrative view of the traditional process.
From aromatic ingredients to scented beads
1. Select the ingredients
Aromatic ingredients are selected for the intended blend. The combination varies by scent edition; individual product pages list its main ingredients.
2. Grind
The ingredients are ground into a fine powder, preparing them to be combined evenly.
3. Sieve
The powder is sifted to refine its texture before blending.
4. Blend
The powders are combined with a binder and moisture to form a workable aromatic paste.
5. Shape
The paste is worked into rounded beads—a traditional approach that gives the scent a form that can be worn.
6. Dry and finish
The beads are left to dry in a shaded, ventilated setting, then finished and assembled into a bracelet. Drying and finishing depend on the blend and the maker’s process.
